Is your vitamin K2 the MK-4 form or the MK-7 form?

Thorne offers both forms of vitamin K2 in different products. Whether vitamin K2 is synthesized by humans or by bacteria, the end result is two subtypes of vitamin K2 known as menaquinones, either MK-4 or MK-7. Although there are non-soy sources of MK-7, much of the MK-7 on the market is soy-based and many individuals have soy allergies or otherwise want to avoid soy, so having an alternative is essential. Both of these vitamin K2 subtypes are nearly completely absorbed, with peak serum concentration at two hours for MK-4 and four hours for MK-7 after ingestion. However, whereas MK-4 disappears from the bloodstream in about 8 hours, MK-7 is capable of remaining in the bloodstream for approximately 72 hours. So if you are taking the MK-4 version, you could take it twice daily, although it is not necessary for the health benefits of vitamin K that it be in a continuous level in the bloodstream. Originally, the most compelling research on vitamin K2 was on high-dose MK4, but more recently some interesting research on MK-7 has been published. Therefore, Thorne is working on some new product formulations containing the MK-7 form of vitamin K2. However, we will continue to provide vitamin K2 in its MK-4 form because its benefits are based on extensive research, particularly research conducted in Japan.

Can Your Products be taken out their capsules to take the product?

Most Thorne products can be taken out of the two-piece, pull-apart capsules. However, there are a few products we don’t recommend taking out of the capsule, which would be indicated in the ‘Warnings’ section on this website for the applicable products.

Does Thorne test its products on animals?

No, and furthermore, Thorne supports the objective of eliminating the laboratory testing of all animals.

As soon before I feel the effects of my supplement?

Every individual is unique and every supplement has a different “mechanism of action” for how it works in the body. Some products can provide a relatively fast result, such as with PharmaGABA for alleviating stress, or Melatonin for promoting sleep. Other supplement products, such as a multi-vitamin/mineral product, are for preventive health and general wellbeing, so an immediate response would not be expected. However, for some products, if you experience an overall sense of wellbeings, such as increased energy or improved mood, and that is the indication of use for which you are taking the product, then you are realizing the intended benefit.

Can pain medication and antibiotics interfere with the absorption of the nutritional supplement?

Thorne is not aware of anything in the current medical and technical literature that indicates that pain medications and antibiotics can interfere with the absorption of the nutrients in nutritional supplements; however, always consult with your health-care practitioner if you are concerned.
